Safety and Security Management Studies an der The Hague University of Applied Sciences (De Haagse Hogeschool)

Safety and Security Management Studies offers a four year full time course. The course offers a student what is necessary to develop professional competencies required to make the public governance of safety and security work.

The programme’s international pedigree is underlined by collaboration with India, Brazil, Morocco, South Africa and the US. Each of these countries – because they have their own safety and security issues – contributes in its own unique way to the programme’s diversity.

Practical approach

A key aspect of the programme is its practical approach. Through games and simulations students can test assumptions and practices. There is also the International Institute for Public Policing. This is a hub for experts in the field of the public governance of safety and security. Together with students it organises the seminars that are part of the curriculum. It publishes a journal and acts as a knowledge base. A substantial part of the final year is dedicated to a work-placement assignment. Students will get hands-on experience and receive the necessary tuition, coaching and support from local universities, a direct advantage of the international collaboration.

Curriculum

Public governance of safety and security is discussed as an aspect of urban development. The city serves as a learning environment in every module of the course. Projects are aimed at issues in urban development. During four years a range of subject will be covered: Safety and Security Management , Network management, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, Conflict transformation processes: the principles of good process planning, Social Education: Safety as a condition for learning and growing and more.

The Hague is an exciting place to study safety and security management. The city is the administrative centre of The Netherlands and hosts a range of national, European and international organisations in the field of safety and security, peace and justice. The Hague University partners with many of them. During the four year course, students will have the opportunity to have internships at a range of international organisations in the field.
